Casey and I recently went on a road trip to melbourne. I've just been looking back over the photos and my heart aches and my mouth salivates longingly for the many pleasures we treated ourselves to along the way. My favourite would have to be Monsieur chocolat in Collingwood, the best chocolate and hot chocolate I have ever had ( and i've had alot) created by a very handsome French Duke..... well.... and the Mornington Hot Springs, (especially because we have nothing as divine even close to Sydney).
Ali & Casey's Guide to Melbourne & Surrounds {Part 1}
Giant Steps in Healesville, http://www.innocentbystander.com.au/ is about an hour north east of the city, in the yarra valley shire. Giant steps is a huge warehouse where they make & store Innocent Bystander and Giant Steps wines behind glass walls while you watch and hang in the cafe. Of course there is also a cellar door for tasting, but I love how it was also an artisan bakery, a coffee roasting house, a pub (they have beer on tap!) and a fine cheese providore all in one. My only issue was they only bake spelt bread on a sunday!! It was really hard to find good sourdough spelt bread in Victoria. . . .

The Great Ocean Rd. There's not much to say here, except it's beautiful and we loved it. Lorne is along the way, which is by far the best town on the Great Ocean Rd. Pizza Pizza served the best pizza I have ever tasted, yes even better than the true napoli style pizza I've had.... http://www.pizzapizzalorne.com/ it is unreal. I would fly to melbourne and drive to lorne just for the day to have that pizza for lunch. or breakfast..... Pizza Pizza is a tiny little kitchen, with two employees, a beer fridge and a window to order. Eat at the tables outside or takeaway to eat on the beach...drool....My pizza in the foreground was proscuitto with roasted pear and home made tomato sauce & fresh herbs.
Below: Duchess of Spotswood. Again, awesome food and coffee.... would I bother posting anything else?
Caffe e Cucina (http://www.caffeecucina.com.au/) Small tables and heavy accents, dim lights and quality service are some of their
secrets. This authentic and iconic italian restaurant in South Yarra has won many awards and was even voted one of the New York Times best italian restaurants. I regret that I should have ordered a pasta, instead of choosing a healhty option and a thick dark italian hot chocolate. Lesson: never choose the healthy option when ordering in an award winning top restaurant. Always, always go all out.
